BUT v BEST
BEST Shipping won the B Division title three games to one when it beat BUT 14 to 9 last week.
BEST manager Phil Ray said: “Scared Hitless are a strong up and coming team and played very well with young players like Mackai McGowan, and Matthew Johnston. Their player-coach Owen Darrell was really up for the series, but ultimately it was BEST's experience and pure power that won the final game and the series.”
BEST's bats which were silenced in game 3, came alive in game 4 and BEST never trailed. Contributions from Nelson Arruda, Matthew Hayward, Micah Meens and extremely solid defensive play by Jay Simons at short and Ryan Rabain in center field.
Brandon Ray pitched extremely well giving up only four runs in six strong innings, and even as Scared Hitless mounted a late charge in the seventh, Ray did well to get the final out at home plate.
Manager Ray added: The B division season was plagued by rain-outs and when we finally got to play, BEST only had four regulars available to play.
Manager Ray said: “At the end of the regular season, three teams had tied for first, TBI, Scared Hitless and BEST. Scared Hitless won the mini-playoff to secure the number one seed in the playoffs, but unfortunately that didn't matter in the end as BEST, who finally had a full squad was able to handle them fairly easily.”
KPMG v BDA Water Tours
The C Division playoffs were the most hotly contested as it went to a decisive fifth game. Bermuda Water Tours staved off elimination by winning game four 31 to 15, KPMG won game five 14 to to 6. n
