FRIDAY, JULY 6: Bermuda’s Olympic team was officially announced today with eight people on the squad and a further two having a last gasp effort this weekend to qualify for London.
The Bermuda Olympic Association said Roy-Allan Burch (swimming) Jesse and Zander Kirkland (sailing), Jillian Terceira (equestrian) Flora Duffy and Tyler Butterfield (triathlon) as well as Araxtana King and Tyrone Smith (athletics) are officially on the team.
Runners Aaron Evans and Harold ‘Tre’ Houston could qualify this weekend and push the numbers to 10 on the Bermuda squad.
The athletes will be accompanied by chef de mission, Stanley Douglas. BOA president, Judy Simons, and BOA secretary general, Philip Guishard will also attend the Games, joining executive delegates from 204 other National Olympic Committees.
Mrs Simons said: “The BOA congratulates Bermuda’s team on their significant achievements in qualifying for the 2012 Games. They have already done us proud and we wish them the very best in competition. We are pleased to have helped play a part in their journeys to success.”
