Impromptu moments and emotions captured in restaurants, cafés and bars around the world are the subject of a new exhibition by painter William J Gringley opening at Common Ground Café on Valentine’s night.
Food and Drink is made up of relaxed, social scenes enjoyed by the artist on his travels with company, some good food and drink.
Growing up in Bermuda, Gringley was inspired by the beauty of the island from a very young age.
He said: “The current show depicts scenes from bars and restaurants around the world. Some of my favourite travel experiences involve tasting the local cuisine and discovering a great place to enjoy a drink. Here, I try to capture those impromptu moments and emotions and hope to evoke memories in those who view these painting of a similar experience enjoying food and drink! Cheers!”
Reaching adulthood Gringley had received several honours and awards for his works. He attended the Art Institute of Maryland as well as Studio Art Centres in Florence, Italy.
Since finishing school he has participated in several solo and group exhibitions at various galleries around the island. In addition to his fine art experiences, he worked as an interior muralist and faux finisher for Four Winds Studios and won the “Howe Award” for work at Spanish Grange. Most recentlyhe has held had several solo exhibitions at Masterworks and Bermuda Society of Arts. also held art classes for adult Bermudians, with participants such as well-known local artists Frank Dublin and Vernon Clarke.
