The fat man in the white suit will miss Christmas.
Bermuda’s KFC franchise re-opening has been delayed but should throw open its doors again before the New Year.
KFC was started by Colonel Harland Sanders, and he was known for his trademark white suit.
Jason Benevides, vice president for KFC Organization, told the Bermuda Sun he would expect the store to open “between Christmas and New Year.”
He said the renovations at the store have hit a snag of minor problems which has pushed back the date in getting the franchise’s doors open again.
“We had some challenges with a combination of things. Any time you go into renovations, there are always surprises that come up. We had some delays in getting materials in, but there wasn’t any one specific factor. When we added them up, it caused the re-opening to be pushed back.”
Mr Benevides said customers can expect a completely refurbished seating area. “The floors, the walls, the furniture will all be new. It’s an update to meet current KFC image standards.”
He said the last remodel was approximately eight to nine years ago.
“There will also be some small changes to the menu, but they may not see them right away.
Mr Benevides added the kitchen area has also been refreshed. “We have also made some small changes behind the scenes in terms of equipment and technology that should set us up to introduce some new things in the coming months.”
He said the technology upgrades will finally allow KFC to have electronic gift cards as well as customer loyalty cards.
“There will also be some changes in terms of what the customer sees when they come to the counter. There will be new electronic menu boards which will help display the product offerings in a cleaner and easier to update format.
