Bermuda sanshou fighters Jermal Woolridge, Sentwali Woolridge and Khalid Pitcher, and taolu athlete Garon Wilkinson will compete in the 1stNORCECA Wushu Tournament in Monterrey, Mexico on December 6-7.
The team has been in training since they returned from a successful tournament at the 12th World Wushu Championships in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia where Jermal Woolridge won a silver medal in the men’s +90kg san shou division.
Both Sentwali Woolridge and Pitcher made the quarter-finals to finish fifth at the event. President of the Bermuda Sanshou Association, Garon Wilkinson competed in three taolu events and finished 53rd, 54th and 60th respectively. As a result of their fine performances, all four athletes were invited to take part in Mexico.
The team has continued with training after returning to the island last month and feel confident about their prospects in Mexico.
The tournament will feature athletes from the North American, Central American and Caribbean regions with guest athletes from Brazil, Argentina and Peru. Teams to watch out for in the Central American region will be host country Mexico and Venezuela.
