WindReach has a new sports wheelchair thanks to a generous donation.
RUBiS Energy Bermuda helped out by sponsoring WindReach’s 4th Annual Archery Competition Day, which saw more than 50 individuals compete.
David Rose, CEO of RUBiS Energy Bermuda, said in a press release: “At the Archery Competition we also donated a specialised sports wheelchair, valued at over $3,000. These specialist wheel chairs are of vital assistance because regular wheelchairs are unstable and unsafe for the many sports that are provided at WindReach.”
Erica Fulton, executive director of WindReach said: “We are extremely grateful to RUBiS for sponsoring our Annual Archery Competition and for donating the sports wheelchair. WindReach uses the chairs on Saturdays when we host our wheelchair basketball games as part of our Adaptive Sports Programme, and the extra chair will enable more able-bodied friends and family to participate in our basketball programme alongside those with special needs. This donation will increase the number of wheelchairs WindReach has to 9.”
Jermaine Simons, sales manager at RUBiS, added: “It is not common to find programmes that enable persons with disabilities and seniors to become active and enjoy sports activities. The WindReach Adaptive Sports Programme provides unique opportunities for these individuals to build their confidence and self-esteem. Tools, such as the sports wheelchair, are an integral part to removing limitations of one’s ability.”
He said RUBis is proud “to enrich the quality of life for individuals with special needs”.
