Three Pembroke Anglican churches, St John’s, St Monica’s and St Augustine’s, held their Spring Fair on the grounds of St. John’s on Saturday, and the community rolled out for a splendid sunny day of family fun.

I was present with my wife, two children and my nephew, and the event had more than enough entertainment to keep the kids happy.

Amongst the many tents there were a variety of simple games where youngsters could win coins to exchange for prizes. Games ranged from chance games such as a wheel of fortune, to mental games where children had to separate objects into categories in a short space of time, to skill games such as balancing several sweets on a lollypop stick. There was even welly-throwing (wellington boots, that is)!

In addition there were crafts for sale, baked goods and face painting, not to mention two bouncy castles and a huge inflatable slide. A large refreshment tent provided drinks, burgers, chilli and soup.

Dancing Bishop

Live entertainment was drawn from throughout the community, featuring a young Gombey troupe, St. John’s Youth Choir, the Bermuda African Dance Company and a gymnastics demonstration to mention a few.

Bishop-Elect and soon to be former Priest-in-Charge of St. John’s Reverend Nick Dill was clearly enjoying the occasion, chatting with the families and even showing his moves as the African Dance Company got the crowd to join in.

All-in-all, this was a very well thought-out event. There was a great variety of activities, and everything was well-manned from the parking to the games and inflatables (so I felt safe letting my 3-year-old play amongst much older children).

In my eyes, a great success. I can’t wait for their summer fair!
