The Bermuda national women’s football team began their Caribbean Cup campaign with a convincing 5-0 win over Turks & Caicos on Friday.
Goals from Shauntee Todd (2), Cheyra Bell (2) and Aaliyah Nolan saw Bermuda get their tournament up and running in the best way possible in their opponents’ own backyard.
Bermuda’s next game is on Sunday at 5pm against Cayman Islands.
The competition represents the start of Bermuda’s bid to qualify for the 2015 Women’s World Cup, with the Caribbean Cup a qualifying event for the 2014 CONCACAF Women's Championship in October in the US, which qualifies three teams directly to FIFA’s showpiece event.
If Bermuda win their current group – or are one of the two best runners-up – they progress to the final group stages of the Caribbean Cup, which take place in Trinidad & Tobago in August.
