‘Sport’ is the word at St George’s Preparatory School.
And yesterday pupils were racing around the grounds taking part in a host of sport’s day activities.
The event comes just a few months after a new outdoor, all-purpose, sports court was built at St George’s Prep, thanks to the fundraising efforts of pupils, parents and staff.
Now they are embarking on the next stage of their fundraising quest by holding a community fun day and Olympiad event on May 10 to maintain the court and buy new sports equipment.
Opportunity
Marlo Santiago, PTA president, told the Bermuda Sun: “The Community Fun Day will provide the opportunity for families and the community to come together, socialize and have fun.
“We will have a giant slide, bouncy castle, cotton candy, snow cones, glitter tattoos, popcorn, bake sale, food and drinks, fun games, netball demo.
“And the opportunity to use and enjoy the sports court, so bring your sneakers and your ball skills.
“This time we are aiming to purchase and install lighting for the court and to have the money to maintain the court and the surface and all equipment.
“We would love to be able to offer some after-school sports clubs to the kids as well.
“We also want to have an adequate supply of tennis racquets, tennis balls, basketballs and netballs for the school as well.”
Mr Santiago said the new sports court had already proved a valuable addition to the school.
He added: “The children have enjoyed having some of their gym lessons outside in the fresh air in a safe and contained environment.
“They have been able to play basketball, netball and tennis, hockey and ball skills and some basic cricket skills as well as skipping.”
