A new health club focusing on studio-style classes has opened up with a focus on getting people results.

Studio One opened the past week and is owned by Christina Dotson, who is a trainer certified in various workouts including spinning, Les Mils Body Combat and Body Pump and CXworx.

Ms Dotson said she decided to open a health club as “it was one of those things where it’s in the back of your mind. I always thought, if I went out on my own, these are the things I would do.

“Someone said ‘Why don’t you call a real estate agent and see what they have?’ They showed me one that was too small then they showed me this one and I was like, ‘Ha, I can work with this.

“And it just went from there.”

Studio one is offering yoga, hot yoga, Pilates, Barre, Zumba, spinning and Les Mils classes.

Ms Dotson also has plans to  offer rehabilitation classes and have a massage therapist on site as well as physio therapists.

She said Studio One’s Focus is on “Results. We want people to feel motivated and accessible. We want to create a safe, inspiring environment for our clients to work out in.

“We don’t hire just anybody to instruct our classes. Anybody can get up there and bark out commands and count to eight.

“It takes a special kind of person to lead a class. I want people to walk in and say it doesn’t matter what class I take, its going to be amazing and I’m going to get a good workout.”

Ms Dotson said after one week, the response has “been better than I thought. Lots of people are liking us on Facebook. I can’t wrap my mind around that.

“We didn’t want to be a hole-in-the-wall gym. We did a lot of research into what kind of colour scheme would increase your heart rate and open you up for the experience.

“Another cool thing about our space is everything is brand new and top-of-the-line.

“We’re also offering online sign-up for our classes. Not only can you sign-up for our classes, you can say ‘I want that spot; I want that bike’.”

As far as rates go, Ms Dotson said: “We’re right in the middle of the competition. We want it to be affordable for everybody.

“We’re a group fitness studio so we have a smaller gym section. Our focus is strictly classes.”

Rates start at $90 a month for a gym membership and $18 a class with class cards as an option.

Asked what she would say to encourage the public to come to Studio One, Ms Dotson said: “Just try it. If you walk through those doors, we will take care of the rest.”

Studio One is located in the basement of Cumberland House. Facebook: Studio One Ltd
