The Minister of Home Affairs, Sen. the Hon. Michael Fahy confirmed this afternoon that the Labour Relations Amendment Act 2014 will not be debated in the House of Assembly tomorrow (Friday March 21).

The public will recall that following an industrial impasse earlier this month regarding making public transportation an essential service, the Government decided to carry the Bill over. It has remained on the Order Paper for debate since March 7.

Minister Fahy said today, “We believe that it is in the best interest of good industrial relations that we defer tomorrow's debate of this Bill. It is Government’s intent however to keep this on the Order Paper and debate the legislation in the weeks to come.”

The Minister added, “Discussions between our union partners continue and as I said a few weeks ago, the Government remains committed to finding a mutually agreed way forward in how we address our labour matters.”
