Sister flies in from Thailand for St Baldrick’s
Carrie Rosorea broke down in tears as she was having her head shaved on Friday night at BAA gym for St Baldrick’s.
It was an emotional experience for Ms Rosorea as she was centre stage in the crowded BAA gym.
“I shaved my head in memory of my mom who died of cancer not long ago. When I looked around at my two healthy children, I thought it was the least I could do to fund research because I was a fortunate individual to have kids who were healthy. I felt for all those who didn’t.
“We need research terribly bad.”
Carrie said her mom, Brenda Canode, “would be proud of me” for raising more than $30,000 for cancer research by shaving off her hair.
Carrie had to wipe away tears several times while she was having her head shaved.
But she didn’t go through the experience alone as her sister Cherie Crook, as a surprise, flew in from Thailand to help lend emotional support.
Carrie said: “I was shocked. My jaw dropped on the floor yesterday (Thursday) when I came home. It means a lot to me to have family support and love you that much.”
Cherie said it was an easy decision to fly the nearly 9,000 miles to be by her sister’s side.
“This is family,” said Cherie. “She’s probably only going to do it once in her life and Carrie has been there so many times for me, as an older sister, that I thought it was the least I could do to come and show her the love that she’s shown me all these years.
“As soon as I knew she was doing this, I was going to do whatever it took to be here for her.”
