So The Bachelor finished this week and while it isn’t exactly celebrity news, I had to write about it because the whole thing is just a mess.
Season 18’s bachelor was Juan Pablo Galavis, football player from Venezuela. He was just a complete jerk and a bit too raw for the show.
Juan Pablo is a single dad and played that up for the cameras so much that it was nauseating. But the thing that is upsetting so many people is how he made offensive comments towards gays, tweeted jokes about mentally ill people and was just a horrible choice for the show.
Another thing that irritated people was that he kept blaming his douchiness on his language barrier. It’s like, dude, we know that English is not your first language but that’s no excuse for you to be so awful.
The icing on the cake was the fact that he shamed one of the contestants after she slept with him and didn’t propose to the final girl, Nikki Ferrell. He gave Nikki a rose but said “I like you a lot” rather than “I love you”.
I guess it’s better for him to be honest but come on now, dude, you know the rules of the show — so follow them!
Juan Pablo and Nikki gave an exclusive interview to People magazine. He still just doesn’t get why he’s the most hated bachelor ever.
“It’s hard because [viewers] saw a character on TV. A lot of things about me were not shown.
Scripted
“I’m not a bad guy. People who know me, know who I am.”
Yes, we know the whole thing is scripted but he really showed who he really is. Juan Pablo came across as narcissistic, selfish, demeaning towards women and disrespectful.
Life and Style claim the couple are done and have barely spoken since the finale. On the After Rose special, the couple said they were still together but Juan Pablo would not tell Nikki he loved her.
On one hand, I feel like Juan Pablo is a horrible, slimy guy who should have never ended up on this show. He was rude and tried to hide behind honesty as a justification.
But on the other hand, I feel like he was being honest to some degree, especially at the end when he didn’t propose.
Yes, he went against the grain but isn’t it better to break up with someone you aren’t engaged to than someone who you proposed to on national television?
