It’s been a few weeks since my last column and there is plenty to report.
I have been busy with the Baltimore Blast, my new company and the Hope4Life Foundation.
Two weeks ago we had our end-of-season banquet for the team. The banquet was a great success and saw many of the players being acknowledged for their hard work this season.
Awards were given out for MVP, best defender, best newcomer and many others.
The greatest awards handed out by the club were the championship rings for winning the championship last year.
For me it brought back memories of how hard we had worked through the season last year and what it also means to defend it this year. A sixth championship would be great.
Blast Hope4life night
Last week was the Hope4Life night with the Blast— we had 400 students from Baltimore city schools attend the game and many fans that support our foundation.
With Walmart as a major sponsor, this made the event a tremendous success. We had many soccer supplies donated for the kids in Guatemala and Africa. All the fans showed great support for this event and I cannot thank them enough.
A visit from Bermuda
I had the pleasure last week of hosting two young men from Bermuda — Cory and his brother Marco Basden.
Both were brought to Baltimore by their father and I wanted to make sure they enjoyed themselves, so I had them be a part of the Hope4life night and also showed them some of my soccer collectables.
They loved the game and seemed to enjoy themselves. Both had the chance to meet the players before the games and also got to run out with me when I was introduced at the game.
They are great kids and I really wish them well in their future careers.
Blast in the playoffs
We are in the playoffs now and already played the first of the best-of-three semi-final games. I am hoping by time you read this article we will be in the finals and are preparing for another championship.
The semi-final first game against Syracuse Silver Knights went well for us, we won the game 20-7, but we know that we cannot relax in the second match.
We must win this second game and not be forced into a third game, because anything could happen then. The battle begins. Until next time.
