Nappy and DJs to bring soca madness

Soca artist Farmer Nappy will perform live in Bermuda at the end of the month for D’General’s annual Return Fete.

The 5th annual party is something that Jason Sukdeo, also known as DJ D’General, has been organizing for the past couple of years after returning from Carnival in Trinidad.

This year, he decided to take it up a notch with the addition of a live artist. It will be held on March 29 and doors will open at 9pm.

“The idea came from Dr Jay who is based in Toronto. I used to go to his Return Fete events every year while I was living in Toronto.

“This year’s event in Bermuda is different because I normally have only local DJs perform. They feature the soca music from that year’s Carnival and the favourites from the past.

“Last year’s event was held at Docksiders to a sell out crowd. The natural progression to go bigger and better than last year was to invite an artist to perform at the event, along with the local DJs.

“Also this year we will be using a new space that has never been used before. It is a very big space, so selling out will not be an issue.”

Sukdeo said: “The DJs have always managed to get the crowd hyped up and bring a high energy to the event. When you add an artist like Farmer Nappy to the mix, things can only get that much more exciting for the patrons.

“As always with my events, I want to be sure to bring quality entertainment in a safe environment. This will be no
different.

“The local DJs will be Jugglin J, Rusty G and myself. 

“Farmer Nappy will perform his hits from old to new and he will be backed by DJ Dane from Trinidad.” 

Speaking on the location, Sukdeo said: “Jenny’s Car Park is a name I’ve given to the large car park between the Bacardi building and Bouche restaurant.

“The outside is painted blue, and it is where the old Bermuda Bakery used to sit.

“The name Jenny’s Car Park will be familiar to those that have been to Trinidad for Carnival, as many of the events during Carnival are held in a large car park called Jenny’s Car Park.

“This is the first time it has been used as a venue, so it is something new and very exciting.

“There will be plenty of space for patrons to park for the event and the fete will happen on the bottom level of the car park.

“That level is completely covered, and therefore unaffected by inclement weather, so this event will happen no matter what the weather.”

Sukdeo encourages patrons to come early and dressed to fete.

“Anyone that has been to a return fete before knows that the early sessions are nothing to miss out on.

“We are definitely looking to bring only the best vibes and energy. Farmer Nappy will be on at 1am to take things even higher.

“He’ll perform all his favourites that some might not even realize are his tunes, like Chippin, Pavement and Stranger from last year and from this year he has big hits like Family, All Ah Dat and Big People
Party.” 

Tickets are currently on sale for $35 until March 16. The price goes up to $40 after that. They are available at Kit ‘N’ Caboodle, Stefanel, Mambo, The Edge and www.ptix.bm. Sponsors for the Return Fete include Heineken, Johnnie Walker, Coca-Cola & Digicel. Sukdeo said to expect giveaways. Parking is available at the venue.
