A recently launched website aimed at creating an alternative job marketplace for Bermudians has added new features to enhance its services.

Jobber.bm puts islanders who need one-off jobs doing in contact with Bermudians who can offer their skills via an online auction. The site has now introduced a pre-vetting service for different types of jobs being posted while ‘posters’ and ‘jobbers’ can now communicate though a Question and Answer system.

This feature allows posters to retain their anonymity, but correspond freely with jobbers via a special messaging platform built for the purpose.

Jobbers can ask as many questions as they like about the job to get the details they need to know before deciding what to bid and posters can ask the jobbers as many questions as they like about their bids and why they think they are the right person to be chosen for the job.

Stafford Lowe, who has launched the website, told the Bermuda Sun: “This is a massive boost for us as we go through all the challenges of growing the website. The great news is that we think that we are well on the way to establishing a platform for Jobbers to create their own individual ‘brand’ as trusted, skilled, reliable workers, available to complete all manner of chores on demand. We have been asked for this feature by a number of early users of the system (both posters and jobbers) and so we’re excited to be releasing a feature which will give a huge boost to the functionality of the website.”

In its first two to three months Jobber.bm saw a combined total of over $11,000 of accepted bids which is not including any extra tips jobbers might have received.

Lowe added: “We’re really excited that the website has been able to make a positive difference so quickly and we hope it will continue to go from strength to strength as we add lots of new features to make it even easier to use.

“We’ve learned a lot in these first few months about how communication between posters and jobbers can be improved and we have some ideas about how we can include different levels of pre-vetting for different types of job.

“The most important thing to say is that it truly feels like people living in Bermuda are willing to take a chance on our new technology to help Bermudians earn the money they need. It’s Bermuda helping Bermuda.”
