A small reception took place on Thursday for the participants of the Department of Workforce Development’s Summer Employment Programme. The reception, held at the ACE Building, was hosted by the Minister of Home Affairs, Sen. the Hon. Michael Fahy, JP.
During the reception the Minister delivered the attached remarks in which he wished the students well in their academic studies. The Minister said: “I applaud every student here, and their families, for making a significant investment in their future and recognizing the importance of personal and professional development to enable them to be competitive in today’s workforce. We, the Government, are equally committed to ensuring opportunities like the Summer Employment Programme continue, where you can gain significant experience, cultivate a strong work ethic, and propel yourself closer to your career goals.
“This year’s programme allowed 150 interns placement in their area of study. Placements this summer have included Government, Private, and Non-Profit Sectors. Without these partnerships the Summer Employment Programme would not have been a success. I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge and thank you.”

Statement by Minister Michael Fahy
I am pleased you could join me today, to celebrate the success of the Summer Employment Programme. We have had some exceptional students participate this year. Earlier this month, I had the opportunity to talk with several interns and observe them in their work settings. It was really encouraging to see just how passionate they are about their chosen fields of study, and how this experience in the summer employment programme has enabled them to connect their academic learning to real work experiences.

You are Bermuda’s future. We are equally committed to ensuring opportunities like the Summer Employment Programme continue, where you can gain significant experience, cultivate a strong work ethic, and propel yourself closer to your career goals.
