Triathlete Flora Duffy finished a fine second in the women’s Totalsports Xterra Buffelspoort event in South Africa at the weekend.
The Bermudian athlete clocked a time of three hours five minutes and 52 seconds in the 1.5km swim, 27km mountain bike and 12km run competition held near Rustenburg.
Duffy put in a sensational swim, emerging from the water in 21:27 — a second faster than the eventual men’s winner — before completing the bike section in 01:37:30 and the run in 01:04:21.
It represents another excellent performance from the island’s leading female triathlete after her win at the 97km Totalsports Terra Firma Challenge event at Gordon’s Bay.
The women’s race at Buffelspoort was won by Carla van Huyssteen in 02:58.02, while the men’s champion was Dan Hugo who crossed the finish line in 02:31.00.
