“I think, well, if they attack one personally, it means they have not a single political argument left.”
Margaret Thatcher.
It seems I have to school OBA MP Glen Smith about facts over fiction in his op-ed. Truth 101
“The One Bermuda Alliance does contradict itself sometimes. We make no apologies for that. As Minister Michael Fahy said, it’s not a done deal.
It’s an idea we’re exploring. We’ve asked Bermudians to help us make a decision.”
Mr Smith admits that the OBA will continue to break promises, and will not apologize to the people of Bermuda about doing so. Bermudians can now discard the words of Minister Fahy, who “promised” that commercial immigration is not “a done deal.”
He negates that the OBA denied planning this, every time they were asked in the media or the House Of
Assembly.
Bermudians have realized that the OBA, does not want public-driven decisions. Look no further than the fact that the OBA has taken away Bermudians’ right vote on gambling in Bermuda.
Add in that MP Sylvan Richards stated that there should be, “buy into commercial immigration”.
Civics 101
“We found that there was a wide gulf between what we were told by our predecessors about Bermuda and what the economy of Bermuda and its social fabric were really like.”
MP Smith is unaware of the fact that MP Bob Richards was the chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee.
As such, he was aware of every state of the government’s accounts, as this is a constitutionally mandated post.
History 101
“But I have to wonder what it would have been like if Mr Roban and Mr Famous had been around.Would Portuguese people have been brought to Bermuda to help us with land management?”
In 1849, Azoreans were brought here to displace black Bermudian farmers as a source of less expensive agricultural labour. They were then deported by the UBP, of which MP Smith was a chairman.
It was the PLP, specifically, my Aunt, Dame Lois Browne Evans, who put a stop to the deportation of Azoreans.
Economics 101
As a reminder, the PLP has presented a host of valid ideas to diversify Bermuda’s economy;
• Islamic finance
• Medical tourism
• Direct trade with Latin America and Africa
• Blue Economy (supported by Dr Saul and Sir John Swan)
Yet the OBA has decided to ignore economic diversification advice from International ratings agencies. Their “Plan B” is to sell out Bermudians’ birthrights of land, jobs and votes.
Pride 101
Thousands of Bermudians wish to be able to purchase land for their children, and to have jobs for Bermudians in Bermuda.
We make zero apology, for defending Bermudians, and the Civil Service, from the Aparthied like plans of persons like MP Smith.
As the UBP chairman, he requested a report on how to use “Black surrogates” to get the UBP re-elected.
Finally, he states MP Roban and I are “frothing at the mouth.” Only rabid dogs “froth at the mouth.” Are proud Bermudians, dogs in his eyes?
I hereby challenge MP Smith, to debate me publically, one on one, on any issue about Bermuda.
First they sent Nandi.
Then they sent Toni.
Then they sent Thad.
Now they send Glen.
Still we rise.
Amandla.
