Jonte Smith can fire Skrill South side Gosport Borough out of relegation trouble, according to their manager Alex Pike.

The 19–year-old Bermuda striker has joined the English non-league club on a month-long loan from League One Crawley Town, where he’s found opportunities limited under new manager John Gregory.

It’s the third loan move of the season for Smith after spells at Havant & Waterlooville and Metropolitan Police.

Pike says the paperwork will be wrapped up in time for the front man to play a part in this weekend’s trip to Weston-super-Mare.

Pike said: “It’s all been agreed but Jonte will train with us Thursday night for it to be finalised and the final forms to be signed.

‘We’ve been after him for a while and there have been a few paperwork problems.”

He added: “Jonte is a good height, he’s got a turn of pace and he’s a natural finisher. We’ve struggled for goals this season so he should help us.”

Smith has made four first-team appearances for Crawley but has yet to figure this season.

Gosport Borough are currently second from bottom in the Skrill South — two leagues below League Two — on goal difference. Three teams are relegated from the division and Borough stand seven points off third bottom Whitehawk.
