Here’s an update on the Blast and also what I have been up to in Baltimore.
Firstly, I want to congratulate Nahki Wells for all the success he is having.
I am so proud of him and wish him well with his career and future in the beautiful game.
It is an awesome feeling to be able to talk about the success of young people from Bermuda to my network of friends and celebrities.
And it’s even better when I have a chance to sit around with my players and brag about the success our young guys are having overseas.
So here’s my update from the US:
The team
We are doing well and just came off a tough weekend of games.
We are in second place in the league and have two back-to-back home games this weekend. We have a couple of injuries but nothing that should hinder us.
Championship ring
Last year we won the championship for the fifth time since I have been with the Blast. Last week was a good feeling as we got sized for our Championship Rings that we’d be receiving at one of the home games this year.
Watching the players’ faces when they were getting their ring size was priceless.
Community work
I have been working with many schools here in Baltimore and other areas in the US with my ‘Power of One’ career and building personal profiles for students and parents.
Also, I have been working with teachers here in many team building workshops.
On February 22 I will be hosting 400 students from a selected group of schools in the Baltimore Public School System at the Baltimore Blast game when we play Syracuse Knights.
This is part of the Hope4Life night we have every year and on this night, fans will be bringing new and used soccer balls and supplies which my company will be sending off to Guatemala, Africa and Mexico orphanages.
Last year was a major success and we had many supplies donated from fans who were at the game. Nothing better than being able to put a smile on a young person’s face.
The Super Bowl
This year I will be heading to Super Bowl events with the legends of sports.
There will community youth events that will be going on Friday and Saturday before the game that I will be involved in — one being the NFL celebrity bowling night with the pro bowlers, celebrities and kids.
I am looking forward to this event as I am sure the young people will have a great time. I just need to
get my bowling skills in order.
Since being inducted in the group it has been exciting and knowledgeable, especially when you have a chance to chat with people like Evander Holyfield, Dr. J, Ed “Too Tall” Jones and many others.
I take full advantage of these chats and have the pleasure in sharing them with many others.
Until next time!
