Two weeks ago there were several flights cancelled in and out of Bermuda.

Being on a flight that’s cancelled is always a frustrating experience. But here are some tips that may help ease some of the pain.

• Check with your airline’s webpage. All of them have a listing of travel advisories and the reason for them.

• Confirm your flight’s status before you go to the airport. All the airlines have apps and it’s just a simple few taps on your mobile device to find out if it’s still on. Mind you, if you’re flying internationally, you have to be there two hours early so you still may end up at the airport before you find it it’s cancelled.

• If your flight is cancelled before you get to the airport, go the airline’s website and use its rebooking tool. It will give you a time jump on the people who go to the airport to try to rebook, which is important in that they have to fill people in on the next flights. You are more likely to get a flight of your choice.

If you’re at the airport, be patient. If it’s because of a major storm, there’s likely to be thousands of people who are affected and will also have to be rerouted.

Most airlines will try to rebook you on one of their flights, but many have partnerships with other airlines, which opens up other options for you to complete your trip.

• They may not check these so you can do yourself a favour by knowing which partner airlines they have and checking those possible alternatives yourself on your mobile device.

Delta

Delta sent out an e-mail to its SkyMile members saying they may be eligible to cut the line at security checkpoints at US airports with their TSA PreCheck.

They call it “a more convenient screening initiative where you may not need to remove your shoes, jacket or belt, or your laptop from its bag.”

In order to see if you are eligible, you have to fill out a form on the carrier’s website at www.delta.com/tsaprecheck

TSA will then determine if you meet the requirements to skip the line on a per-flight segment basis.

Norwegian Cruise Line

Norwegian Cruise Line launched an ‘Ultimate Dining Package’ allowing guests to eat at a variety of specialty restaurants for one set price.

Restaurants Included in the deal are: Cagney’s (steakhouse); French bistro, Italian restaurant, Moderno Churrascaria, Asian-Fusion Restaurant and more.

The package does not apply to Ocean Blue by Geoffrey Zakarian or a la carte priced restaurants such as the Sushi Bar, Noodle Bar and Ocean Blue on the Waterfront.

However, when dining in one of these venues, guests will receive a discount of 20 per cent off of their bill. Entertainment-based dining such as Cirque shows, Second City lunches, Nickelodeon Pajama Jam, Wine Lovers Lunch, Illusionarium and Chef’s Table are also not included.

In other Norwegian news, the line announced the Epic will home port year-round in Barcelona, Spain starting April 30, 2015.

The Norwegian Epic will be the largest Norwegian Cruise Line ship to ever home port in Europe year-round.
