Protest group determined to resurrect referendum on gambling
A group of citizens will announce later this week the start of a drive to gather 4,000 signatures on a petition calling on Government to hold a referendum on gambling.
The group has five core members, reportedly from a cross-section of society, and they include a former candidate from the 2013 General Election.
The group says the petition is non-partisan and it is not taking a position on the issue of gambling itself.
Holding a referendum, we were told, would help educate the public about the pros and cons of casino gambling.
The group says there was already cross-party support for casino gambling prior to the referendum being scrapped.
A website and online petition is expected to be launched on Thursday and organizers say 4,000 signatures is an initial target.
