Kind boss makes dream trip a reality
A mother-of-two is planning the family holiday of a lifetime thanks to her generous boss.
Marta Jordan scooped a $10,000 travel voucher this Christmas after her boss, Gillian Farge, bought 10 raffle tickets from the Bermuda Red Cross and handed them to her staff at Island Trading.
Mrs Jordan, who is the store’s general manager, is now looking forward to taking her husband, Karl, and two sons Xavier, four, and Excell, six, on a dream break later this year.
She told the Bermuda Sun: “I never win anything.
“When Gill gave me the raffle ticket as a present, I though, wow, that¹s very nice but my ticket may as well be number 1001 because my name never gets called.
“It was very generous of Island Trading to give each of us a $100 raffle ticket and because it was the Red Cross, we all knew it was for a good cause.”
Mrs Jordan received a call just before Christmas saying she had won the first prize after the Governor’s wife, Margaret Fergusson, made the draw.
She added ” I thought it was one of my friends calling as a prank.
“Over the last couple of weeks we have been looking at the possibility of going somewhere like Australia and New Zealand.
“Last year we went to Italy, so it would be nice to do something a little bit different from the norm like Asia too.
“Whatever we choose to do it will be a fantastic holiday and I’m very grateful to get this opportunity.”
Spirit of Christmas
Mrs Farge told the Sun she had decided to hand out the Salvation Army raffle tickets to her staff in the spirit of Christmas giving.
She added: “The Red Cross is one of my absolute favourite local charities.
“They do so much good work on the Island and I love to support them each year.
“When I learned that only 1,000 raffle tickets were being printed, I thought that’s not many and perhaps one of the team at Island Trading actually stands a chance of winning.”
