Earlier today, the Ministry of Home Affairs in partnership with the Bermuda Hotel Association (BHA) hosted the 2014 Hospitality Career Fair at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess.
The aim of the Hospitality Career Fair was to encourage suitably qualified Bermudians to apply for job opportunities in advance of the upcoming 2014 Tourism season.
Over the course of today close to 200 people attended the expo.
This morning, the Minister of Home Affairs, Sen. the Hon. Michael Fahy stopped by the event and spent some time touring the interactive career booths, which included spa, concierge, sports and recreation, culinary and food and beverage to name a few.
Minister Fahy said, “I had an opportunity to visit all of the career stations and I was very impressed with what I had seen and heard. I want to take this opportunity and thank each and every one of our industry partners – the BHA, our hoteliers – and our employees at the Department of Workforce Development for putting this event together.
“Over the last few days since the Budget was tabled, the public will have heard that we are starting to see modest signs of an economic recovery. It is at a delicate stage, however we consider this very good news. So we view the Hospitality Career Fair as being very timely, as we consider our tourism industry to be a key component towards ensuring a strong and robust economic recovery.”
The Minister continued, “We are in need of some dedicated, committed, dynamic and passionate Bermudians to be a part of this industry. We are looking for individuals to fill dozens of jobs in advance of the tourism season – spa attendants, sports and leisure workers, wait service staff, front desk and other front line personnel, general managers and hotel executives. Today’s event was about sowing the seeds so that we can nurture our next group of hospitality industry leaders.”
Participating properties at this year’s event included Rosewood Tuckers Point, Fairmont Southampton, Fairmont Hamilton Princess, Cambridge Beaches, The Reefs, Mid Ocean Club, Grotto Bay Hotel and Coral Beach Club. The Bermuda Hospitality Institute and The Bermuda College were also participants this year.
The Department of Workforce Development advised that all available hospitality jobs are currently available for viewing and application online via www.bermudajobboard.bm.
