Wells: I’ve not been good enough

Nahki Wells has admitted he’s ‘not been good enough’ in his past few matches for Huddersfield Town.

The Bermudian striker, 23, made a blistering start to life with the Terriers after his record £1.3 million move, with goals in his first two matches.

But he’s found life tougher in subsequent games, culminating in a disappointing display during the defeat to Sheffield Wednesday that saw him taken off after 71 minutes.

The former Dandy Town man says it’s up to him to get back on the scoresheet, adapt better and prove he can be a success at Championship level.

“The manager has shown faith in me and it’s up to me to repay him,” he told the Huddersfield Examiner.

“I’m very critical of my recent performances. I wasn’t good enough on Saturday and I can probably say the same about the last few matches.

“The chances haven’t fallen for me as fluently as I’d like. That’s where as a striker you need to be creative and I don’t think I’ve done that.

“But I’m not going to let it knock me back. I’m going to keep going and hopefully once I’ve got a goal, more will follow.”

He added: “I’ve come from a very different environment [Bradford City] and made a big step up. I knew it wasn’t going to be easy.

“Even though I was fortunate enough to score in my first two games I always knew things would need to settle down.

“But it’s not about the team learning to play with me, it’s about me learning to play with them. Hopefully it’ll come in time.”
