So which of the US airlines gets the fewest complaints?

According to the US Department of Transport, Southwest Airlines with 0.34 complaints per 100,000 passengers.

Of the airlines that fly to Bermuda, Delta had the highest rating.

In order, they were: Delta (#3 out of 16 in the US) 0.59, JetBlue (#4) 0.63, US Airways (#12) 1.42, American (#14) 1.99, and United (#15) 2.14.

Complaints were down 14.1 per cent from 2013 to 2012.

JetBlue Wi-Fi

JetBlue is offering free Internet on its flights while it is beta testing a new service Fly-Fi, which it claims will be faster than other airlines.

The programme, Simply Surf, will be free on all JetBlue flights that are equipped with it. People who want more bandwidth, can pay $9 an hour for its Fly-Fi Plus plan.

JetBlue estimates it will take two years to equip every plane in its fleet with the service.

It will start with its Airbus fleet followed by the Embraer E190s.

The service will only be available in the continental US, but if it works as well as American Airlines Wi-Fi, you can probably pick it up — or lose it — within 100 miles of the east coast of the States.

JetBlue also offers free Internet at Terminal 5 at JFK in New York.

Air Canada

Canada’s number one airline has warned its customers this month that there is a phishing scam purporting to be from Air Canada. The carrier said: “If you receive an email that claims to come from Air Canada or Aeroplan and you believe it to be fraudulent, do not respond and do not click on any links or open attachments contained within the email.

“Report suspicious e-mail scams to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at [email protected]

“If you responded to the email, gave personal information or have lost money, please call the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501.

“If you delete the e-mail without clicking on any links, there is absolutely no risk to your Aeroplan account.

However, if you clicked on the link and provided your Aeroplan password or other personal information, notify Aeroplan immediately by calling: 1-800-361-5373.”

American Airlines

The carrier has expanded its Self-Tag luggage programme.

If you fly through Miami, you can expect that you will have to do this yourself. It will have agents available to help you. But other AA airports that have the feature include: Las Vegas, Denver, Austin, St Louis, Orlando, Reagan (Washington, DC), Richmond, Tulsa, Montreal, Dallas, Chicago and Charlotte.

The airline is saying it is faster, but it is more of a move to help it cut costs.
