Mark Hatherly took advantage of absent leader Dominic Mayho and an ill rival to claim victory in the Men’s A category at latest Flying Colors Fat Tire Massive Race Series meet at Hog Bay Park.

With Mayho flying home after racing overseas, the door was open for the Men’s A Class.

Unfortunately for Neil De Ste Croix, he was a bit under the weather. However, after a rough start he began to reel in leader Hatherly only to eventually pull out of the race, allowing Hatherley to go on and win.

Chequan Richardson grabbed second with Deshi Smith finishing third.

It was the seventh race day of the nine-race series and 87 riders turned out to battle the tough climbs.

The weather was cloudy and humid for the most part but once again, the Junior 12-and-under class, who race last, lucked out and were the only ones who had to navigate the course in heavy rain. True to the FTM MTB spirit, they finished muddy but happy.

Rookie Alexandria Watlington, freshly moved up to Female B from Novice, had a tough time with the descent towards the beach. She managed to pull off a first-place finish, though, despite a few spills.

In the Female Junior 12-and-under class, Cassy McPhee pulled off the surprise of the day with her first win of the season.
