Wells and Town suffer Leeds thrashing (Update)
The Bermudian missed a number of crucial chances at Elland Road – one when the game was poised at 1-1 - before United ran riot in the second half to finish 5-1 winners.
Before the match Leeds had confirmed the buyout by the Italian Cellino family and had sacked their manager Brian McDermott, who was replaced by caretaker boss Nigel Gibbs on the teamsheet.
It gave the game a rare intensity as furious home fans chanted McDermott’s name throughout. The most unbelievable twist, however, came after the game when the club released a statement insisting the manager had not been sacked and that the club ‘look forward to him continuing in his role for us’.
The uncertainty and anger within the ground had initially given Town an advantage and they went ahead through Danny Ward on 24 minutes.
Terriers’ record signing Wells then had a golden chance to extend the away side’s lead when he was sent clean through, only to shoot wide with just Paddy Kenny to beat.
Soon after, Ross McCormack equalised, the half-time whistle was blown and Leeds were amazingly galvanised.
Jimmy Kebe made it 2-1 in the second half before Wells missed another great opportunity when he volleyed wide from the penalty spot. The 23-year-old fired wide again soon after and it wasn’t long before the game turned to disaster for Town.
McCormack scored two more to complete his hat-trick, with youngster Alex Mowatt making it five to cap a horrible second half for Town.

12:44am: GOAL!: Mowatt makes it 5-1 to Leeds after a goal-face mix up between Smithies and Gerrard.
12:37am: Huddersfield make their final substitution, as Martin Paterson replaces Nahki Wells.
12:35am: GOAL! Leeds are now 4-1 ahead after McCormack makes his hat-trick.
12:26am: GOAL! The hosts broke free from a Huddersfield attack, and McCormack puts Leeds 3-1 up.
12:24am: Ward found Wells in front of Leeds' goal, but Nahki struck wide.
12:20am: Terriers tried to equalise with volley from Ward, but it goes wide.
12:16am: GOAL! Leeds have taken the lead after a goal from Kebe.
12:13am: Back in action. No subs either side.
11:53am: Half Time - the teams go into the tunnel 1-1.
11:52am: Equaliser! Following a couple of shots at goal from Nahki Wells, the hosts turned the tables and McCormack found the goal.
11:45am: Leeds have been fighting back, winning a corner moments after the goal, but Huddersfield are bringing the fight to them. Leeds' Austin shot went wide.
11:28am: GOAL! Danny Ward has scored after a great run and pass from Calum Woods.
11:20am: A tight game so far. Hosts Leeds had the first big chance early on, but Huddersfield' striking team have been creating chances. Wells and Ward worked a one-two to be stopped by Bryam, while Wells one shot go wide and another hit the outside of the net.
11:01am: Game on! Huddersfield Town, in their red-and-black away kit, kicked off.

Manager Mark Robins' men will be hoping for their third straight victory over Leeds, and their first away Championship win since December 3rd against Bolton.
