The Home Affairs Minister met with City of Hamilton bosses to discuss Government's concerns over a raft of new parking charges proposed by the Corporation.
The Corporation of Hamilton announced on Sunday that it would be implementing a number of parking changes around the city, including the introduction of new parking charges.
But today Government expressed concern about the proposed changes and Corporation representatives are due to meet with members of the Attorney General chambers 'in short order' before the new charges come into effect.
A Government spokesman said: “The Minister of Home Affairs, Senator The Hon. Michael M. Fahy, JP met this afternoon with the Mayor of Hamilton, The Wor. Graeme Outerbridge, JP and the Corporation CEO, Ed Benevides, JP to discuss the Government’s concerns with the proposed Hamilton Traffic and Parking Ordinance 2013 .
"It has been agreed that Corporation representatives will meet in short order with the Attorney General’s representatives to examine the Ordinance prior to it becoming effective.
"The public shall be updated in due course.”
