Bank of Butterfield has introduced Bermuda’s first ‘chip and pin’ credit cards. They feature an embedded, encrypted microchip for data storage which enhances fraud protection. Card holders will have to enter their Personal Identification Number (PIN) when making purchases. Most Bermuda retailers do not have Point of Sale (POS) terminals that can do PIN numbers. BNTB will be working with local retailers to upgrade their systems.
