A St George’s man was today remanded into custody after he admitted threatening his girlfriend’s mother and carrying a knife.
Kevin Simmons, 22, pleaded guilty in court this morning to uttering threatening words to Sylvia Smith on October 23 and having a 3.8 inch knife on him in a public place, namely Old Military Road in St George’s.
Crown counsel Carrington Mahoney told the court Ms Smith is the mother of Simmons’s girlfriend.
The court heard on October 23, the complainant was at her Barrack’s Close home.
When she walked by her daughter’s room, she saw Simmons standing outside of the bedroom window.
Simmons looked at her and said: “Open that window. If you don’t open it, I’ll break it and beat the s**t out of you”.
The court heard Ms Smith felt fearful and opened the window, but called the police immediately afterwards. Simmons then ran from the property.
Police arrived and caught up with Simmons on Old Military Road. He was arrested and cautioned.
Officers searched the defendant and found a knife in the pocket of his pants.
At the police station, Simmons admitted having the bladed article and said he carried it for protection.
Addressing the court, Simmons said: “I do daily patrols around the island. I walk all over the place and check out the scenes to make sure no trouble’s going on.
“Nobody tells me to do it, I just do it. I have been jumped and robbed and almost stabbed so I decided to carry a knife.”
Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner adjourned the matter to December 5 and ordered presentencing reports.
Simmons was remanded into custody.
