Jason Dufner reflected on a ‘rough day’ on Wednesday but said he’ll be working like crazy to get back to Bermuda next year.
The PGA champion was his usual deadpan self on and off the course at Port Royal and drew laughs in the media centre when asked if he was injured?
“I’m always that slow,” he replied, with deceptive sharpness.
But the American, who became a Twitter phenomenon with the Dufnering craze, said he had enjoyed his week despite never really being in contention.
He said: “You’re amongst pretty selective company. It’s the toughest tournament to qualify for, no doubt. The PGA of America does a great job of making us feel comfortable and making things easy for us.
“I’ve got some work to do next year to try to get back here. I don’t have the luxury of being the defending champion, so I think I’ll have to win one of those [Majors] next year.”
Dufner rued a slow start on both days for his failure to get his game going.
He said: “When the sun came out and the rain went away, I played a little bit better. Just not a good start, trying to catch guys and you’re making bogeys and they are grinding it out.”
For Padraig Harrington it was almost a relief to get off the golf course as he struggled again to recapture anything like his best form. The 42-year-old said: “I think everybody else has enjoyed themselves, anyway! I might enjoy my next two days.
“You do enjoy it more than any other tournament. But saying that, you are focused on playing the golf. Now that the golf is finished, I will take more of the sights of Bermuda in. I hope the weather is going to be good!”
