Man admits damaging police car
A Hamilton parish man today admitted cursing at a police officer and causing more than $1,000 damage to a police car.
Nickell Smith, 21, became irate with police officers on August 27 after they came to a My Lord’s Bay Road home after reports of a disturbance.
When they arrived, the officers tried to calm down the residents who were standing outside the home, Smith included.
But Smith wouldn’t calm down and said: “F**k you . You don’t know me. I told you to get off my property. F**k the police.”
The officers told him to stop using profanity and when he refused, Smith was arrested.
The court heard the officers escorted him to the police car to take him to the Hamilton Police Station. Smith then kicked the car with such force that he caused a dent. The total cost of damage was $1,150.
On September 4, Smith was charged with the offences.
Addressing the court, Smith said: “I would like to apologise to the courts for me actions that day.”
Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo adjourned the matter to December 14 for sentencing and ordered pre-sentencing reports.
Smith was granted $1,500 bail with one surety.
