Work has begun to install a CCTV camera system around the dump near the airport to catch illegal dumpers.
The Bermuda Sun revealed last month how rusting cars, old air conditioning units and construction material had been abandoned outside the Waste Management Facility.
Airport bosses said that a ‘crisis point’ had been reached, while environmental groups urged islanders to take responsibility for their own trash.
Works and Engineering employees have now started to push ahead with the project in response to the latest wave of illegal dumping.
And the scheme is expected to be completed early in the New Year.
A Government spokesperson told the Sun: “A CCTV system will be installed to monitor both the waste management operation and the Long Term parking area.
“The system will provide us with high definition quality recordings.”
The waste management facility, which is run by the Department of Works and Engineering, is set to see new lighting and a weighbridge, as well as CCTV cameras, installed in the coming months.
