>Shaun Goater has applied for the vacant manager’s position at Bury, the Manchester Evening News has reported.
The former Bermuda international, who enjoyed a stellar career at Man City scoring 103 goals in 189 games, has now moved back to the UK and was in the stands to watch the Shakers' 0-0 FA Cup draw against Cambridge United.
The MEN are also reporting that former City and Everton boss Joe Royle has agreed to be The Goat’s assistant should he land the job.
Goater’s push to get into management is not narrowed to Gigg Lane, however. He is also said to be in the frame for the vacant Scunthorpe United job after they sacked Brian Laws following their FA Cup defeat to bitter rivals Grimsby Town.
The ex-striker was in the crowd at Fratton Park to watch The Iron win 2-1 over Portsmouth, who are also now without a manager after they sacked Guy Whitttingham on Monday.
