Mountain bike season is upon us once again and this means the return of the Tokio Youth Mountain Bike Series.
The 2013-14 fun race series will kick off at the Arboretum tomorrow, the first of seven races.
The free series, sponsored by Tokio Millennium Re and Bicycle Works, and sanctioned by the Bermuda Bicycle Association, aims to introduce primary school-aged children to cycling as a way to help promote physical fitness and healthy lifestyles.
Ed Jordan, head of the Bermuda office of Tokio Millennium Re, said: “The goal of this event is to give kids a fun introduction into mountain biking, while also giving them a chance to gain confidence in riding a bicycle and to practice basic principles of strength, coordination and motor development.”
This year there is an advanced course for older children or those who feel are ready for a new challenge.
“With the help of riders from Fat Tire Massive, kids will be able to take off on an adventure course through the Arboretum.
James Holloway from Fat Tire Massive said: “Joining with Tokio for their Youth Mountain Bike Series is a great collaboration.
“It allows us to help the kids develop their skills and confidence on the bike while introducing them to the next level of mountain biking.”
Children are free to use any kind of bicycle. Parents must ensure that each child has a helmet and all participants must wear closed toe, athletic shoes.
