Although only a few people recognized last week’s back in the day, the information we received was great. Glenn Titterton and Betty Christopher identified themselves in the photo, while Janet Simpson helped to fill in the blanks.
The picture appears to be an event at St. John’s Youth Club, which met on the corner of Angle Street facing Dellwood (now The Centre).
The hall was used for teenage dances and they also put on plays, according to Janet Simpson, although the event pictured also featured the Scouts and the Boy’s Brigade, so she was unsure what the occasion was.
Glenn Titterton identified the four young people in the centre as, from left; himself, Andrene Salmon, unknown girl, and Richard Pedro. Janet Simpson said that Glenn (later the head of BF&M) and Andrene (the daughter of St John’s curate) were teenage sweethearts, and she also identified the young man on the far left in the Boy’s Brigade uniform as a Rance, but couldn’t remember his first name.
Betty Christopher had a chuckle when she spotted herself and David Pitt in the doorway on the right.
She dated the photo as about 55 years ago, which makes it late 1950s or early 1960s).

Check those outfits! But who’s wearing them? Where and roughly when was this photo taken and do you recognize any of the musicians featured? What can you tell us? And do you have any unusual, old photos to share? E-mail Photo Editor Gary Skelton: [email protected]. Or call him on 278-1880
