The number of Brits visiting Bermuda has increased by 15 per cent year on year according to Bermuda Tourism Authority chairman David Dodwell.

Mr Dodwell was speaking to trade partners attending the annual World Travel Market conference in London currently underway.

Overall visitor figures dropped by more than 12 per cent past year but UK visits were up, Mr Dodwell said, thanks to “the outstanding achievements made in the past 12 months” by all our key partners” as well as UK media support including a half hour segment on Radio 4 about John Lennon’s
island legacy.

A “Bermuda team” hosted an Appreciation Dinner attended by more then 60 VIPs at the five-star ME Hotel in Aldwych where it awarded several partners including reps from British Airways and tour operator Classic Collection.

Mr Dodwell said: “The introduction of the new Tourism Authority is being well received by the UK market. The consistency and ongoing business relationships we can reinforce and forge anew are strong in the UK. That, coupled with an obvious optimism and a feeling of strength for the coming year, bode well for our immediate future here.”

The Bermuda Sun inquired how many Bermuda representatives are attending the conference and how the trip is being funded but we did not receive a response by press time. n
