Convicted murderer David Cox is likely to have the fixed term on his life sentence reduced after a hearing in the Court of Appeal this morning.
Cox, 34. was convicted in 2011 of the murder of Raymond Troy “Yankee” Rawlins, 33.
Mr Rawlins was gunned down by Cox, and another gunman who is still at large, as he walked into the Spinning Wheel Club on Court Street in the early hours of August 9, 2010.
He was shot 16 times in the head, neck and torso and died of his injuries.
Puisne Judge Carlisle Greaves sentenced Cox to life with 38 years behind bars before he is eligible for parole.
A year ago today, Cox launched an appeal against conviction and that was turned down. Today, he successfully appealed his sentence based on a Privy Council decision.
Cox saw his appeal allowed in part, meaning while he is still serving a life sentence, the Court of Appeal required the sentencing judge to reconsider how much time Cox has to spend incarcerated before he can apply for parole.
The life sentence still stands and a date for sentence will be set at the December arraignment session.
