Your input needed for City plan

The Department of Planning is updating the City of Hamilton Plan from 2001 and is relying on input from the public to ensure the new plan meets the needs of the community.

One of the Department’s latest initiatives in this regard is the creation of a travelling display. From Monday November 4th until Friday November 8th, members of the public can visit the display in the lobby of City Hall.

“I encourage members of the public to stop by the travelling display and take a look,” said the Minister of Environment and Planning the Hon. Sylvan Richards JP MP. “The travelling display visually shows the impacts on development under the 2001 City of Hamilton Plan.

“We are inviting input on topics that are relevant to how the built form and open space looks in the City. Would you like to see taller buildings? Should buildings be allowed to be taller than the Anglican Cathedral? Do you want to see more public art? These are some of the questions that the technical officers are asking people."

Director of Planning Aideen Ratteray-Pryse said:  “So far, previous travelling displays have been successful with many people stopping to talk to the technical officers and asking if we will be back. The answer is yes. Future dates have already been set and we are looking to do more public outreach and activities to engage members of the public in the planning process.”

The Department of Planning will also station their travelling display in the Washington Mall at the Sportseller entrance on Tuesday November 19th and Tuesday November 26th from 11:00 am – 2:00 pm. Planning staff will be available to answer any questions members of the public may have and to obtain input about what people would like to see in the new City of Hamilton plan.

The Department is also meeting with individual property owners in the City of Hamilton to discuss their desires for their properties and their neighborhood. The Department has already met with some business owners, residents and organizations. Any individual or group interested in meeting with the Department of Planning should contact them at 297-7756.
