The Bermuda Monetary Authority announced they have reached the fifth anniversary of its Graduate Training Programme (GTP).

The Authority marked the occasion with a ceremony at BMA House for latest GTP graduate Jelani Scott.

Five years after its launch in 2008, three young Bermudians have completed the Programme and have joined the Authority’s team of supervisors.

Mr Scott recently graduated from the GTP after a banking-focused rotation through the Authority’s supervisory departments.

He also completed two external secondments: locally with HSBC Bermuda and internationally with the Bank of International Settlements in Basel, Switzerland.

Mr Scott has now joined the Authority as a senior analyst within the Banking, Trust, Corporate Services and Investment department.

Shanna Lespere, director of operations at the Authority said in a press release: “Having been involved with the GTP since its inception, I am delighted to see the Programme reach its five-year milestone.

Pride

“We are very proud of our graduates and how the GTP has progressed.

“The Programme’s goal remains to provide an opportunity for suitably qualified Bermudians to enter the field of supervision, and ultimately have a successful career in financial regulation.

“It is a unique opportunity for young Bermudians to make an impact on their career and their island.”

“During the programme, our trainees are immersed in a range of technical initiatives and rigorous training to ensure they are groomed to be the top-tier supervisors Bermuda requires,” she added.

“Given the vital role of quality regulation in supporting Bermuda’s credibility as a jurisdiction, we cannot stress how important it is for Bermudians to take advantage of this opportunity.”

The deadline for the GTP is this today, Friday, May 31.

Mesheiah Crockwell, the Authority’s head of human resources said,:“In an economy where some young professionals may be finding it difficult to secure an entry-level position in the financial services arena, we are offering the opportunity for not just a job but a career in financial regulation.

Strong

“The applications for thisyear have been strong, however the invitation is still open to anyone who is willing to apply themselves.

“For trainees, Programme elements include: a personalised work track that supports their area of interest; being paired with an executive mentor; rotations through primarily supervisory departments; and local and international secondments. Our motto is ‘Challenge Yourself’, and our graduates have proved that if you do so successfully, there is a place for you at the Authority.”

Application details are provided in the Programme’s brochure. Visit www.bma.bm to download a copy. For any additional queries regarding the GTP, email [email protected] or call 278-0281.
