Norwegian Breakaway’s Splash Academy Youth Team headed ashore to present activities at Sandys Secondary Middle School/Sandys 360 Centre on Thurs. May 16. Karen Maybury, Project Director for Norwegians Youth Program and Paul Rossi, a head coach for the UK’s Kings Foundation, led a team ashore for a new initiative called “Sports to Ports”.

This is when crew members use their own free time and volunteer at locals schools to teach children life skills through Sports. The Breakaway Youth team is a group of talented individuals who all work with the Youth programme on board the ship. The afternoon was full of fun and games led by the ships team, in which Sandys teachers participated.

The introduction of Sports to Ports was facilitated by Chris ‘t’ ian Swan, a former pupil of Sandys Secondary School and founder of his company Chris’t’ian Swan ([email protected]). Mr. Swan, a former crew member of Norwegian Cruise line, was proud to return to his grass roots at Sandys Secondary School and looks forward to continuing this significant relationship.

Dr. Melvyn Bassett, the Managing Director of Sandys 360 expressed appreciation to the group for coming and said that they are excited about the prospects of having the Splash Academy Youth Team visit us on a regular basis when visiting each week.

More information about the Kings Foundation and their sports programs can be found at www.kingsfoundation.org.
