A Turkish pervert who used a video camera to look up women’s skirts has been jailed for 30 days.

Kubilay Fidan admitted five offences of secretly filming five women at Miles Market between January 2012 and May 9, 2013.

The 41-year-old asked for a further 12 offences to be taken into consideration when he was sentenced yesterday.

The court heard Fidan was caught at Miles Market on May 9 after he was seen by the security team removing a bag from his shoulder and placing it on the ground.

Prosecutor Garrett Byrne said: “He began to move the bag towards a woman who was wearing a short skirt.

“He continued to move it until it was under her bottom. She moved away and he put the bag on his shoulder.”

A few minutes later, Fidan, came back to the store’s coffee area and did exactly the same to another woman who was wearing a short black dress.

Fidan then left the store and went to his car, where police caught him watching the footage.

Two of Fidan’s victims were later identified by police and told officers they felt “embarrassed and upset” by his actions.

Officers searched Fidan’s Southampton home where they found numerous similar videos on his computer.

Fidan’s lawyer, Larry Mussenden, said his client came to Bermuda 14 months ago with his wife who is a work permit holder.

The unemployed father-of-two told the court: “I sincerely apologise for what I have done. It was wrong and I am very, very ashamed.

“I am truly, truly sorry. I wish I could turn the clock back and never caused all this trouble, but I’m truly sorry.”

Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner branded Fidan’s behaviour ‘repulsive and unacceptable’.

He added:  “The community must be protected against him.”

He was given a 30-day sentence plus an order of deportation was recommended to the Governor.

Miles Market president, William Cox, praised the work of his security staff in catching Fidan. “Fortunately, The Waterfront complex is heavily monitored by CCTV as the safety and security of our clients and staff is of the utmost importance to us.”
