Scott Barnes opened up a 74-point lead in the Senior TAG karting class after he won two races on Sunday.
Barnes had the chequered flag drop on him twice at the Bermuda Motorsports Park at Southside. He also had a second place finish as he and Stephen Corrado swapped the top two spots in the three heats.
Jason Skuzzie North found his way to the podium two times with third place finishes while Al Seymour Jr took third in the double points third heat.
Barnes how has 962 points to David Barbosa’s 888. The real battle appears to be for second with one race to go. Barbosa is just 38 points ahead of young gun Corrado.
The 125cc Shifter Class saw Shannon Caisey win the first heat but Barnes take the next two races. Corrado had a solid day with two seconds and a third.
John Carreiro Jr had a second and third while Ben Savil wrapped up the podium finishes with his own third place showing.
Barnes leads Corrado by four points for the overall title while Caisey stands 49 points ahead of Devon Durrant for third.
The Trophy Day races saw a good slate of young drivers out in the Junior Stock Clone Class for 10 to 15-year-olds.
The competitive racing saw three different drivers work their way into the winner’s circle with Blake Horesman, Owen DeCosta and Zavier Smith taking turns at being first.
Horesman’s day also included two seconds. DeCosta managed a complete set of podium finishes with a first, second and third.
Horseman leads for the overall title chase with 874 points followed by DeCosta (820), Corey Lewis (820) and Smith (460).
Ryan Lopes was unchallenged in the Junior Modified Clone Class.
The final race day is Sunday, May 19, which will also be a trophy day. The karts and Bermuda Motorcycle Racing Club will again alternate events on the track.
