Trio in court on alleged jewellery thefts
A 24-year-old mother appeared in court today charged with stealing $26,000 worth of jewellery and a laptop.
Chanel Smith pleaded not guilty to dishonestly receiving a stolen white Mac laptop worth $1,926 between January 14, 2009 and April 30, belonging to Lisabet Outerbridge.
In a separate charge, Ms Smith denied entering an Abbot’s Crescent home on April 15 and stealing a large quantity of jewellery including a gold charm bracelet, a silver charm bracelet, three watches, rings, necklaces and more to the total value of $26,800.
She was alternatively charged with dishonestly receiving $6,775 of stolen jewellery belonging to Grace Swan, knowing it was stolen, between April 15 and April 30.
Ms Smith denied that charge as well.
The defendant also appeared for mention on another matter with co-accused Vanessa Blyden.
Ms Smith and Ms Blyden yesterday denied receiving thousands of dollars worth of stolen jewellery between March and April.
Today, Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner set out their bail conditions.
Both defendants were released on $3,000 bail with one surety.
They will reappear on May 10.
A third woman, Jewel Wilson, 22, denied dishonestly receiving a pair of multi-coloured stone earrings worth $400, belonging to Julia Ann Francis, between March 26 and 27, knowing they were stolen.
She also denied dishonestly receiving an $800 Pandora bracelet and two pendants, worth $175 in total, belonging to Tuere Smith, between April 1 and April 28.
Her matter will also be mentioned on May 10 and she was given $2,000 bail with one surety.
