North didn’t look like he was going to have a championship quality day after finishing last in the first race, but he roared back to keep points’ leader Scott Barnes out of the winner’s circle for the next two heats.
Barnes had the complete set of podium finishes — first, second and third — and now leads David Barbosa by 19 points for the season title. Barbosa had a second, third and fourth, finishing behind Barnes in each of the three races.
Young Stephen Corrado continued to show his driving skills with a second and a fourth. Corrado remains third in the standings, 93 points behind Barnes.
Corrado had things more his way in the 125cc Shifter Class by sweeping to victory in all three races. He also moved to the top of the standings surpassing Barnes who had a second, eighth and ninth places finishes. The teenager now has a 24-point advantage over Barnes in the Shifter Class. Shannon Caisey and John Carreiro Jr flip-flopped second and third place showings in the last two events but Caisey finished second on the day with a third place showing in the first heat.
The solid showing by Caisey allowed him to cut into Devon Durrant’s third place standing for the season and trails him by just 19 points.
Ryan Burgess was unchallenged in the Junior Stock Clone Class for seven to 10-year-olds as was Ryan Lopes in the Junior Stock Clone Class.
Blake Horseman won two of the three heats in the Junior Stock Clone Class for 10 to 15-year-olds. Zavier Smith also wheeled his way into the winner’s circle by taking the chequered flag in the second race. Smith also had a second place finish.
The day’s other solid performer was Owen DeCosta who had a second and a third.
Two young ladies were also racing as Lauryn Burgess got the better of Rebekah Harrison.
The next race day is Sunday, April 7, which will also be a trophy day.
