Caisey & Co clinched the Digicel Premier Division at the weekend after North Village Rams’ 3-2 defeat to Somerset Trojans gave them an unassailable lead with two games remaining.
Cougars’ trophy cabinet already housed the Friendship Trophy this season and now the skipper desperately wants to add the FA Cup to the collection.
With a semi-final against Southampton Rangers on March 30, they are just two victories away from winning all three for the first time in the club’s history.
Caisey told the Bermuda Sun: “I feel part of a special group.
“Most of the players have been playing in the team for some time.
“What I would say is we’ve been putting the work in since day one.
“At the start of the season the team was confident and when we put our minds to something we tend to do it.”
He added: “We have just got to stay focused now — and party later. Cougars have never done the treble before. Then we can come together ands talk about what we’ve done – and do a little bit of bragging!”
Friday night’s 1-1 draw with St George’s Colts proved enough to get Cougars over the line — but Caisey says the belief they would win the title has been there for some time.
He said: “About halfway through the season I felt like we would win it.
“In fact, when we won the Friendship Trophy that gave us a lot of confidence and gave us a lift.
“I would have loved to have won the title on the pitch but it didn’t go as planned on Friday – I’m just glad Somerset did us a favour.”
Caisey also talked warmly about the impact manager Dennis Brown has had on the team.
He said: “He has been a rock for us.
“He’s a no-nonsence character – if you don’t train you don’t play. He gives everyone a chance, though – he’s a good person.”
Brown himself cut a low-key figure on Sunday night, although he admitted his dinner tasted better than usual after hearing of rivals Rams’ surprise defeat.
Brown told the Bermuda Sun: “There is no need for us to celebrate at this time, we still have two games to go in the league and a FA Cup semi-final to play for, although I did enjoy my supper a bit more Sunday night knowing that the league had been won.”
He added: “This is my first league title as a coach and it is most gratifying to accomplish this because this signifies a level of consistency for the team, which we emphasized during pre-season preparations.
“The league was always our first and main priority and it gives me great pleasure to see us accomplish that mission.
“The rest of the coaching staff like Cyril “Dago” Steede, Kwame Steede, Shawn Smith and Earl Rhoda, who also made sure that all of the players’ needs were met, also need to be applauded.
“The players, for all the hard work that they put in, have to be commended as well because this season I placed huge demands on them in relation to putting in more time to train and the results and consistency level have spoken for themselves.”
