Bradford City responded to Nahki Wells’ admission he will consider offers to leave by telling him he can fulfil his ambitions at Valley Parade.

The former Dandy Town player told the Bermuda Sun this week that while he loves City “to bits”, if the right opportunity came his way he is eager to move up the leagues.

But the League One club’s joint chairman Mark Lawn was quoted in the Bradford Telegraph and Argus as saying the Bantams can match the striker’s aspirations and that the club have yet to receive any “decent bids”.

Lawn said: “He’s a confident young man and you need that with a striker. But I believe he will be able to fulfil his ambitions to get into the Championship and perhaps even beyond with Bradford City.

“We are ambitious as a club and we want to try and get up there as well.”

The 23-year-old flies back to England today, with pre-season starting on Monday, and City reiterated it would take a substantial bid for them to even consider the forward, who scored 26 goals last season.

Lawn said: “Why would we possibly make it easy for him to leave? As I’ve said before, if we do receive an unbelievable offer and Phil feels it’s best for Bradford City then we will look at it.

“He is signed to us for another two years and if he is looking at the Championship, who is to say he cannot achieve that with us during that timespan?

“We haven’t had any decent bids in at all and it would have to be a very good one for us to consider releasing him – and Nahki understands that.”
