Police report: Gunshots fired, serious collision, boat ran aground

Gunshots in Sandys Parish, No Reported Injuries

Around midnight on Wednesday, June 26th police officers responded to a report of gunshots in the Valley Lane, Sandys parish area.

Forensic evidence confirmed a firearm was discharged; however there were no reported injuries.

Inquiries into this incident are ongoing and any witnesses or anyone with any information is encouraged to contact the Somerset Criminal Investigation Unit on 234-1010 or the independent and confidential Crime Stoppers hotline on 800-8477.

Reported Serious Collision in Devonshire

Around 11:30pm on Tuesday, June 25th police and first responders attended a reported serious collision at the junction of Tee Street and South Road in Devonshire.

It appears that an auxiliary cycle was being ridden along South Road and a car was being driven along Tee Street when the vehicles collided at the junction. The auxiliary cycle rider, a 17 year old Paget woman, was injured and taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment.

At last check the victim was in stable condition on a general ward. The car driver, a 23 year old Warwick man, was subsequently arrested on suspicion of impaired driving. Both vehicles were damaged.

Marine Incident

Around 10:15pm on Tuesday, June 25th police officers responded to a reported marine incident in the vicinity of the Spanish Point Boat Club. It appears that a boat ran aground on the shoreline near the club.

There were no reported injuries; however the alleged boat operator, a 40 year old Smith’s parish man, was arrested on suspicion of operating a marine vessel while impaired.

Inquiries into this incident are ongoing.
